Rules & Terms
Eligibility Films produced in 2021 or later are eligible for submission. International submissions from all countries are welcome. Subtitles All non‑English and non‑Greek films must include English subtitles. English subtitles are recommended even for English‑language films to ensure smooth jury evaluation. Monthly & Annual Structure All submitted short films compete only within the category selected by the filmmaker. Each month, the jury selects one film as Best Short Film of the Month. This is the only film screened for that month. The 12 Monthly Winners qualify for the annual theatrical screening event on October 31st in Athens, Greece. The audience votes during the annual screening to determine the Best Short Film of the Year. All other categories receive annual jury awards but are not screened due to the one‑day event format. Promotional Use Awarded films may have a few seconds of footage included in the festival’s monthly promotional trailer. By submitting, filmmakers grant A.C.H.I.F.F. the non‑exclusive right to use stills, posters, or excerpts up to 30 seconds for festival‑related promotion. Screening Policy Only the 12 Monthly Winners are screened publicly. The festival does not provide screening fees. Categories are not changed by the festival; the filmmaker’s choice is final. Awards & Trophies Gold and Silver recipients receive an official digital certificate. All participants receive a personalized poster‑award. Bust trophies are optional and available to all winners, nominees, and finalists. Annual Bust Awards are complimentary for winners attending the ceremony in person. Non‑attending winners may acquire the trophy (€129 including shipping). Submission Policy Submission does not guarantee selection, nomination, or screening. Submission fees are non‑refundable. A.C.H.I.F.F. may modify programming, schedule, or format without prior notice. Liability A.C.H.I.F.F. and its affiliates are not responsible for costs, damages, or losses related to submitting or attending. This includes travel, accommodation, shipping, or changes in venue, dates, or programming. Legal Compliance Filmmakers must hold all rights to their submitted work, including music and copyrighted material. Submissions must not infringe on third‑party rights. The festival assumes no responsibility for legal disputes arising from submitted content. Κανόνες & Όροι Δικαίωμα Συμμετοχής Ταινίες που έχουν παραχθεί από το 2021 και μετά είναι επιλέξιμες για υποβολή. Διεθνείς συμμετοχές από όλες τις χώρες είναι ευπρόσδεκτες. Υπότιτλοι Όλες οι ταινίες που δεν είναι στα Αγγλικά ή στα Ελληνικά πρέπει να περιλαμβάνουν αγγλικούς υπότιτλους. Αγγλικοί υπότιτλοι συνιστώνται ακόμη και για αγγλόφωνες ταινίες, ώστε να διασφαλίζεται ομαλή αξιολόγηση από την επιτροπή. Μηνιαία & Ετήσια Δομή Όλες οι ταινίες μικρού μήκους διαγωνίζονται αποκλειστικά στην κατηγορία που επέλεξε ο δημιουργός. Κάθε μήνα, η επιτροπή επιλέγει μία ταινία ως Καλύτερη Ταινία Μικρού Μήκους του Μήνα. Αυτή είναι η μοναδική ταινία που προβάλλεται για τον συγκεκριμένο μήνα. Οι 12 Μηνιαίοι Νικητές προκρίνονται για την ετήσια κινηματογραφική προβολή στις 31 Οκτωβρίου στην Αθήνα. Κατά την ετήσια προβολή, το κοινό ψηφίζει για την Καλύτερη Ταινία Μικρού Μήκους της Χρονιάς. Όλες οι υπόλοιπες κατηγορίες λαμβάνουν ετήσια βραβεία της επιτροπής, αλλά δεν προβάλλονται, λόγω της μονοήμερης διάρκειας της εκδήλωσης. Χρήση για Προώθηση Ταινίες που λαμβάνουν βραβείο ενδέχεται να συμπεριληφθούν με λίγα δευτερόλεπτα πλάνων στο μηνιαίο προωθητικό trailer του φεστιβάλ. Με την υποβολή, ο δημιουργός παραχωρεί στο A.C.H.I.F.F. το μη αποκλειστικό δικαίωμα χρήσης στατικών εικόνων, αφισών ή αποσπασμάτων έως 30 δευτερολέπτων για σκοπούς προώθησης που σχετίζονται με το φεστιβάλ. Πολιτική Προβολών Μόνο οι 12 Μηνιαίοι Νικητές προβάλλονται δημόσια. Το φεστιβάλ δεν παρέχει αμοιβές προβολής (screening fees). Οι κατηγορίες δεν αλλάζουν από το φεστιβάλ· η επιλογή του δημιουργού είναι οριστική. Βραβεία & Προτομές Οι Χρυσοί και Αργυροί νικητές λαμβάνουν επίσημο ψηφιακό πιστοποιητικό. Όλοι οι συμμετέχοντες λαμβάνουν προσωποποιημένη αφίσα‑βραβείο. Οι προτομές είναι προαιρετικές και διαθέσιμες σε όλους τους νικητές, υποψήφιους και φιναλίστ. Οι ετήσιες προτομές απονέμονται δωρεάν στους νικητές που παρευρίσκονται αυτοπροσώπως στην τελετή. Όσοι δεν παρευρίσκονται μπορούν να αποκτήσουν την προτομή με €129 (μεταφορικά συμπεριλαμβάνονται). Πολιτική Υποβολής Η υποβολή δεν εγγυάται επιλογή, υποψηφιότητα ή προβολή. Τα τέλη υποβολής δεν επιστρέφονται. Το A.C.H.I.F.F. μπορεί να τροποποιήσει το πρόγραμμα, το χρονοδιάγραμμα ή τη μορφή του χωρίς προηγούμενη ειδοποίηση. Ευθύνη Το A.C.H.I.F.F. και οι συνεργαζόμενοι φορείς δεν φέρουν ευθύνη για κόστη, ζημίες ή απώλειες που σχετίζονται με την υποβολή ή τη συμμετοχή στο φεστιβάλ. Categories of crime and horror filmsCrime films may fall under several different sub-genres. These include: Crime comedy - A hybrid of crime and comedy films. Mafia comedy looks at organized crime from a comical standpoint. Humor comes from the incompetence of the criminals and/or black comedy. Examples include Analyze This, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, In Bruges, Mafia!, Tower Heist and Pain & Gain. Crime drama - A combination of crime and dramatic films. Examples include such films as Straight Time and Badlands. Crime thriller - A thriller in which the central characters are involved in crime, either in its investigation, as the perpetrator or, less commonly, a victim (generally, this is just a thriller). While some action films could be labelled as such for merely having criminality and thrills, the emphasis in this genre is the drama and the investigative/criminal methods. Examples include Untraceable, Silence of the Lambs, Heat, Seven, Witness, Memories of Murder, The Call, and Running Scared. Film noir - A genre popular in the 1940s and 1950s often fall into the crime and mystery genres. Private detectives hired to solve a crime are in such films as The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Kiss Me Deadly, L.A. Confidential, The Long Goodbye, and Chinatown. Neo-noir refers to modern films influenced by film noir such as Sin City. Heist film - This film deals with a group of criminals attempting to perform a theft or robbery, as well as the possible consequences that follow. Heist films that are lighter in tone are called "Caper films". Examples include The Killing, Oceans 11, Dog Day Afternoon, Reservoir Dogs, and The Town. Heroic bloodshed - a Hong Kong action cinema crime film genre Hood film - Film dealing with African-American urban issues and culture. They do not always revolve around crime, but often criminal activity features heavily in the storyline. Examples include Menace II Society and Boyz n the Hood. Legal drama - Not usually concerned with the actual crime so much as the trial in the aftermath. A typical plot would involve a lawyer trying to prove the innocence of his or her client. Examples include 12 Angry Men and A Time To Kill. Mob film - Film which focuses on characters who are involved seriously with the Mafia or organized crime. Notable mob films include: The Godfather, Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America, Bugsy, Little Caesar, The Untouchables, The Public Enemy, Scarface, and The Departed. Mumbai underworld - an Indian cinema crime film genre Mystery film - Film which focuses on the efforts of the detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of a crime by means of clues, investigation, and clever deduction Police procedural - Have remained a mainstay with He Walked By Night, In the Heat of the Night, Madigan, and The French Connection. Yakuza film - Japanese crime film genre. Examples include Abashiri Prison, Branded to Kill, Battles Without Honor and Humanity, and Sonatine. HORROR Action horror – A subgenre combining the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage of horror movies with the gun fights and frenetic chases of the action genre. Themes or elements often prevalent in typical action-horror films include gore, demons, vicious animals, vampires and, most commonly, zombies. Comedy horror – Combines the elements of comedy and horror fiction. The comedy horror genre almost always inevitably crosses over with the black comedy genre. The short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is cited as "the first great comedy-horror story". Body horror – In which the horror is principally derived from the graphic destruction or degeneration of the body. Other types of body horror include unnatural movements, or the anatomically incorrect placement of limbs to create 'monsters' out of human body parts. David Cronenberg is one of the notable directors of the genre Holiday horror – Involves a psychopathic killer stalking a sequence of victims in a violent manner during Christmas. The murders are often committed by someone dressed as Santa Claus, a snowman, an elf, or other Christmas character. Horror drama – A film that focuses on imperiled characters dealing with realistic emotional struggles, often involving dysfunctional family relations, in a horror setting. The film's horror elements often serve as a backdrop to an unraveling dramatic plot. Psychological horror – Relies on characters' fears, guilt, beliefs, eerie sound effects, relevant music, emotional instability and at times, the supernatural and ghosts, to build tension, scare and further the plot. Science fiction horror – Often revolves around subjects that include but are not limited to killer aliens, mad scientists, and/or experiments gone wrong Slasher film – Often revolves around a serial killer who systematically murders people through violent means Splatter film – These films deliberately focus on graphic portrayals of gore and graphic violence. Through the use of special effects and excessive blood and guts, they tend to display an overt interest in the vulnerability of the human body and the theatricality of its mutilation. Supernatural horror – Includes menacing ghosts, demons, or other depictions of supernatural occurrences. Often, supernatural horror films combine elements of religion into the plot. Common themes include vengeful ghosts, witches, the devil, and demonic possession. Gothic horror – Gothic horror is a type of story that contains elements of goth and horror. At times it may have romance that unfolds in the setting of a horror tale, usually suspenseful. Some of the earliest horror movies were of this subgenre. Natural horror – A subgenre of horror films "featuring nature running amok in the form of mutated beasts, carnivorous insects, and normally harmless animals or plants turned into cold-blooded killers." This genre may sometimes overlap with the science fiction and action and adventure genres. Zombie film – Zombie films feature creatures who are usually portrayed as either reanimated corpses or mindless human beings. Distinct sub-genres have evolved, such as the zombie comedy or the zombie apocalypse. |
